Transient Response Along a Transmission Line
BackAn FDTD simulation of a sinusoidal voltage as it propagates along a 50-ohm transmission line. The generator is 2.0 V in amplitude with a 50-ohm output impedance, which is why the traveling wave has an initial amplitude of 1.0 V. The right-half of the transmission line has a characteristic impedance of 100-ohm, which causes the initial reflection. The load impedance is 50-ohm, causing a secondary reflection at the right boundary. Note how the reflections "bounce" back and forth along the 100-ohm segment, eventually converging into a steady-state system after the 3rd bounce or so.
