Hope Academy Step Team at Divine Nine Step Exhibition

Hope Academy steppers, Tyller Wright and Jamal Williams, performed with their teaching artist, Dennis Garner at Slippery Rock University's "Divine Nine Step Exhibition" on March 29, 2008. This event showcased teams from the National Pan Hellenic Council fraternities and sororities. Dennis Garner's fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, collaborates with Hope Academy of Music and the Arts to provide step instruction and positive role models for youth in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for their communities. Stepping is an art form originating from the gumboot dance of South Africa. It is performed by historically Black fraternities and sororities.
