Aerospace Expert Waxes Eloquent on VI

Back

http://viroadshow.blogspot.com/ In a recent campus visit, the VI Road Show got a great interview with Dr. Robert Bishop, Professor and Chair of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin College of Engineering. Dr. Bishop researches guidance, navigation and control of aerospace vehicles. He is a specialist in the area of planetary exploration with emphasis on spacecraft guidance, navigation and control. Bishop is currently working with NASA Johnson Space Center and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on techniques for achieving precision landing on Mars. He is also working with the Goddard Space Flight Center on spacecraft formation flying and lunar exploration. Bishop was twice selected a Faculty Fellow at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and as a Welliver Faculty Fellow by The Boeing Company. In this video interview, Dr. Bishop shares some very interesting insight on how virtual instrumentation has changed the way control engineering is taught, as well as some comments on how LabVIEW is being used in university research, and how UT Engineering bridges the gap between ivory tower control theory and the real-world, garage-style pragmatism.
