This video is the perfect example of what happens when people aren't honest. The Original groups "deserve" to work b/c they are the ones who wrote and sang and performed the songs for years.

Or if you still have the records then you're set. Myself I'm a CD person I've only seen a record player but not the 45s or any other record. I thought Larry Marshak was cool because he was trying to reunite the Drifters but now he just sucks.

I know exactly what you are saying, and I agree with you 100%. Fortunately, I was never exposed to any of these promoters or agents. If I ever saw an imposter group, I would know immediately!!
Well I guess, at this point in time, if you want to hear every original doo wop artist, just pop in a CD lol....amen

Often imitated but never duplicated. I agree totally with what this gentlemans said, groups are being exploited. They are plagiarizing musicians having the absurdity to pass themselves off as originals. The promoters and agents know exactly what their intentions are with this type of callous behaviour but it all has to do with making a quick buck. During the rock and roll era these musicians were exploited had little common knowledge of how the industry functioned.

Yeah that is basically what I was saying with you adding more. Not all of the announcers are legit. Heck go to Vegas and most of those acts will be fakes unless for at least a few like Sonny Turner or Lewis Lymon. Real legit groups beat the fakes no matter what.

excuse the mispellings lol.. i'm in a rush!!!

Ok Bruce, you have to realize that these groups are in late sixties, early seventies by now, so yes of course, they are not all going to be original...but for example..some of the groups I've seen recently i.e. the Classics, Clickettes, Passion, Skyliners (for the most part), Randy and the Rainbows, Chantelles, Johnny Miestro, Little Anthony...these still have the original lead singers... and put on an awesome show.

Actually not all announcers are honest. It depends on who announces them. As of lately most groups lost their original members but still have members who have been on the later lineups and have sung on the records. Also it does matter. Herb Reed, Charlie Thomas, Ben E. King, Carl Gardner's Coasters, Ink Spots, and a whole lot of other groups are losing gigs. I'd rather have the legit group with old members than some young kids who have no connection to the group.

ok, hold on just a second here. I'm from Philly and attend at least four doo-wop concerts a year. The announcers are ALWAYS honest, and they will tell you who is original in the group, and who isn't. In any event, if everyone enjoys them, who cares!!!
