He changed the whole feeling of the song-and why not? Didn't Miles make a ballad out of Bye Bye Blackbird? There are endless possibilities. Change the tempo, change the rhythm, make it a bossa nova.........

No, but that's your preference. I look for how expressive the musician is and what he or she brings out from within, instead of only liking what 'I'm used to hearing'.

hears what i think.. all the "good ol" versions go at that fast tempo. and its what where used to hearing..kinda like your mama makeing you that good cookin..you always go back to what you have in your memory.. then youll try to do that cookin and you cant do it like her, you may put more bbq sauce or salt, change it up to your standards,,but not everyones gonna like what your cookin ,, honestly i dont care much for Wyntons version,,because its not how mama used to make it hahah ya dig brotha?

There's no law that says this song has to be at a certain tempo. That's why jazz is all about feeling. One night you might want to play it at a moderate tempo, the next night you might want to slow it down to a ballad tempo. As long as it swings it doesn't matter.

Switched to the mouthpieces when they first came out in the late 80s. He switched to the horns when they first came out in the early to mid 90s.

There are better interpretations of this number on youtube. Big Butter is not meant to be a medium slow ballad or something. It should be exitement, try Ilbofilms Climax Jazz Band from Canada, or Crackerjacks from Holland, that's more like it.
